iHubbub.com, a recently launched and fast growing social network, takes prides in their eclectic home business community [http://ihubbub.com/members] of people who use their talents and passions to come up with fascinating business ventures.
There are 9 million UK home workers and 4 million plus home business owners working from their home. Although iHubbub only launched 5 months ago, they are the fastest growing social community for people who want a lifestyle portfolio career.
iHubbub is thriving in the UK, spreading across to Europe and expanding globally with some members dotted around the world [http://ihubbub.com/search-home-business-map]. Within months of the launch, thousands of small and home based business owners, freelance consultants and home workers have joined for free. By joining they automatically pin their profile to iHubbub's home working map.
In 2008, just after the recession hit the UK, home workers, Ken Sheridan and Paula Wynne, sold up their big home, gave up the extra cars and family trimmings and downsized their living - all this to put their savings and personal energy into creating a close-knit community for home business owners.
Despite tribulations such as Paula having to have a shoulder reconstruction [http://ihubbub.com/magazine/paula-wynnes-five-year-wild-ride] with metal plates and having to rebuild their site, they put their home working community into Beta testing early in 2012 with their official launch taking place six months later.
Ken, who originally hails from Dublin, comes from a corporate 'big-money-world' where he managed multi-million pound budgets to launch products such as Tetley Tea's round tea bag and Monster Munch crisps, while Paula lived in the freelancing world working from home to ensure time off to do school runs and after school activities.
When the online entrepreneurial couple came together with the idea of their first online venture, Remote Employment, they quickly discovered how many home workers were seeking a warm and friendly community to network rather than some of the monster networking sites out there.
Co-Founder of iHubbub, Paula, from Out of [South] Africa said: "We have put everything into our community, blood, guts and tears. And we have come out laughing and delighted with the response. It is fantastic to hear how our members work from home, some of them in the most unusual places, but all of them making a success of home working by running a business adapted to suit their way of life!"
As National Work from Home Dayis aimed at highlighting smarter working practices by encouraging companies to give employees a day at home, ambassadors of home working, Ken and Paula, are often called upon to share their insights into making remote working possible from an employer's point of view.
When Ken and Paula set up their first business venture, helping people find home working jobs, there were around 3.1 million people working from home in the UK and this has trebled by 2013! The emergence of 'virtual jobs' and 'virtual communities' has changed the way companies attract and retain skilled employees.
The other half of iHubbub, Ken, said: "We support all those who are in the home working space, bringing them many essential home business products and services to assist them in their journey. We are in the same shoes and aim to help make our members' home business profitable."
iHubbub's unique mapping facility allows members to connect locally as well as internationally with other home based business entrepreneurs and freelancers wanting to interact with small start-up businesses.
